In Michigan, there’s a 10% on retail marijuana sales plus a 6% sales tax.

In Illinois, the taxation of cannabis products is determined by both their type and THC potency. The structure is as follows:

Cannabis flowers or products containing less than 35% THC are subject to a 10% tax.

Cannabis-infused products, such as edibles, incur a 20% tax.

Products with a THC concentration exceeding 35% are levied a 25% tax.

Additionally, these products are also subject to the standard state sales tax of 6.25%, along with potential local taxes, which can be up to 3.5%.

Recreational consumers may purchase up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana or its equivalent in marijuana-infused products per transaction. Of the 2.5-ounce total purchase limit, only 15 grams can be in concentrate form.

The legal limits for cannabis possession and purchase are as follows:

Cannabis Flower: Adults can possess and purchase up to 30 grams (approximately one ounce) of cannabis flower.

Cannabis Concentrates: The legal limit for cannabis concentrates is up to 5 grams.

Cannabis-Infused Products: Adults can purchase and possess up to 500 milligrams of THC in cannabis-infused products, such as edibles.
